SETTLED IN...FOR NOW
Staff calls temporary library a cozy place

Mary Howell, T.L.L. Temple Memorial Library circulation manager, works at the front desk library's temporary quarters.
T.L.L. Temple Public Library is up and running in its new temporary quarters at 800 N. Temple, the former Temple Associates building.

Assistant Librarian Irma Guerrero calls the new quarters "very cozy." The temporary facility has les space than the permanent library, but staff members are making do. "We just have to make it our home for seven months."

The relocation was necessitated by the current renovation and expansion of the library building, and vacating the building will shave four or five months off the project's completion time, Librarian Brenda Russell said earlier.

Guerrero said not all of the existing collection and equipment could be moved, but the most-requested items, Christian fiction and largeprint books, all made the move. Only four computers, half the former number, are available during the relocation. The computers are in the "teen room," in a rear corner.

"I like it," Guerrero said of the temporary arrangement. "We're trying to make it inviting to our patrons."

The renovation of the permanent library building, a $2.5 million project, should be completed in September or October.
