News From The Round Table At Pouland's
Keith Lee and Andrea (Pouland) got to reminiscing about junior high days at Diboll. I overheard them talking about their 8th grade science teacher, Beth Stubblefield, who would send a student with 50 cents across the street to Tanner's Grocery for a small bottle Coke Cola and peanuts. (Back then kids didn't have to go the principal's office for permission to leave the campus). They enjoyed talking about "the good old days". A few days later, Keith and Sandra's son, Cody Lee, stopped by to see us. He is selling for Zep Cleaners out of DeSoto, Texas and likes his job. His sister Stephanie is married to Jonathan Durham who also works for the Nacogdoches PD. Stephanie is an LVN and they have two sons: three-year-old Gunner and oneyear old Max. They also live in the Peavy Switch area near her grandfather, Leighton Lee. And thinking about granddaughters, I have to brag a little about Cheyenne and the Diboll FFA which was well represented at the recent Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Sarah Capps and Cheyenne Swor showed Barrows. There to watch Sarah show were her parents, Keith and Susan Capps and her sister, Maddie. Kenneth and Ginger Capps also made the drive to Houston to watch Sarah. Cheyenne's parents, Kevin and Andrea, were thrilled that "Johnny Cash" placed 10th in her class and made the sale. Cheyenne and her cousin, Daniel Eddins both showed broilers at the HLS&R. Daniel's parents, Dan and Karen were there and pleased that he placed 34th in the sale with pullets and Cheyenne's roosters placed 24th in the sale. Other hard working members of the Diboll FFA that showed gilts were Jennifer Reeder, Maddi Capps and Dillion Mason. Until you have been there and done that, you can not imagine all the work that goes into showing an animal. Congratulations to all the participants, their parents, family and their teachers at Diboll ISD: Aubrey Davis, Ted Eddins and Kevin Swor. Diboll FFA recently competed at Area IX Career Development contest at Sam Houston in Huntsville. The Ag Mechanics team placed 2nd and will advance to state later this month. Members of the team included: Franke Salas, Alejandro Zamora, Orlando Concha and Faustino Salaiz. The Ag Sales team presented a sales pitch over cattle feed and placed 5th. members of the team that will advance to state include Rachel Oates, J.R. Youngblood and Eddie Esteves. The Livestock Judging team was made up of Cody Miller, Krystal Ferguson, Sarah Capps and Daniel Eddins. The Poultry Judging team included Randy Summers, Adam and Colin Lowther and Jennifer Reeder. The Floriculture Judging team placed 5th and will advance to state; team members included Rochelle Miranda, Kimberly Lowther, Heather Weeks and Monica Moreno. Congratulations!! We hope you bring several State titles back to Diboll. Ginger & Kenneth were able to see and visit with several members of their family when two grandsons had ballgames scheduled in Nacogdoches. 14- year-old Stephen Harris, son of Dewayne and Rulaine (Capps) of Sasche, Texas near Dallas plays on a traveling team as well as Brady Capps who plays on two different teams. There to support Brady were Jeff and Shelby Capps, Ashley, Casen and Devin. Stephen's older sister, Rebekah is a sophomore at the University of Texas; she flew from Austin to Dallas and drove with her parents and sister Brandy to Nacogdoches. Rulaine commutes to Chicago on Mondays and returns on Thursday evenings; she was able to get home OK that weekend but recently got caught up in American Airlines' dilemma. Stephen's other grandparents, Van and Bernice Harris, live in the Hudson area. Stephen Harris plays for the McKinney Marshalls and they are having a good year, winning one tournament and placing in the finals of three other tournaments. They were playing in Oklahoma City last weekend. But while they were in Nacogdoches, Kenneth and Ginger had everyone to them at Fudruckers. The grandsons played again on Sunday but that was the 46th wedding anniversary of Ginger and Kenneth and they decided to celebrate somewhere other than the baseball park. Congratulations! It was also their granddaughter, Morgan Kennedy's 23rd birthday. It's been a long time since we've seen Roy Cates who was in with his wife, Carolyn. They have been bitten by the "Dutch Oven cooking" bug. They decided on several helpful cooking tools and a cookbook. It's fun and challenging, hopefully, they will be back for more cooking items. Allen Foster came in. He works for Temple Inland in the Internet Systems department. Most of you will remember his dad, Charlie Foster, who worked for TSE until his retirement. Charlie lives in Wells with his daughter and Allen bought him some peanuts while he was in the store. It was really good to see George Davis out and about. He is feeling much better and was in buying Round Up to kill those unwanted weeds in his yard. Louise Lindsey was also in buying some plants and beautiful hanging fern. 4th grade teacher at Temple Elementary, Meredith Walker, enjoys working in her yard. She and her husband Chris bought the former home of Tina Kellam with its beautiful landscaped yard. Meredith couldn't resist buying two of the hanging ferns. The amazing and entertaining Dubby Perry stopped by to buy corn. Becky Chapman was buying corn for her squirrels and hen scratch for her birds. Ken and Pam St.Ama should have the greenest yard in Diboll with all the fertilizer they have applied to their yard in Brookwood. Our thanks to Becky from the Diboll Dairy Queen who brought us a sampling of their ice cream birthday cake that they make and sell. We can testify that it is very good and would serve well at a birthday party. It was a little bit early or else we could have served it on Bettie Havard's birthday, April 11th. Bobby and Sue Chandler's son, Bobby James and his wife Rebecca and children, Tyler and Morgan drove from Leesburg, Virginia to Diboll to visit with family and friends. Rebecca has served eighteen years in the Marine Corp. She is a major and will be leaving soon for a one year tour of duty in Baghdad. Bobby teaches in a private school and the family has made the decision to move to Diboll while Rebecca is away. Tyler and Morgan are both very active and both participate in soccer and wrestling. When they get moved to Diboll they will enjoy having grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins close by. Just in case you don't get your paper early, Mark your calendar that the Fish Truck will be here on Wednesday, April 23rd, between 2 and 3 PM with fresh fish to stock your ponds |
