Sheila's Potpourri This surely has been the wildest week we've had in a while. We've gotten to the point in our lives that we are not use to great excitements nor upheavals. In other words we stay home much of the time and are quite happy to do so. We probably have had more going, doing and seeing for the past 40 years than most people could ever think of having in a life. Beamon spent much of his life with me away from home rolling down some highway going somewhere with a load or to get one. It has been wonderful that I was able to spend days and nights traveling along seeing the countryside and how things work in our huge USA. Death finds each of us whether we are ready or not. I sort of feel guilty about writing about those we know and love who have died. But then not a week goes by unless someone tells me they would not have known about this happening and those who live away only have this paper or the Lufkin paper to learn that an acquaintance or school mate is no longer, alive. There has been more going to visitations and funerals in our area than is normal. Moving back here put us in the neighborhood with. Joe, Mark and Donna Lowery who were the children of Othal and Lester Lowery. Donna was the baby at eleven and it is highly unlikely that she ever met a stranger anytime in her life. She had a dynamic personality and a smile that was ever present. Donna was laid to rest this week with a multitude of friends and relatives already missing her. Her parents, brothers, husband Paul Clark, her children. Austin and Leslie Clark have to glory in the knowledge that so many people loved her and have so many wonderful memories of an angel that lived among us. Emma Jean Junge had been a. part of our lives all my life. Her oldest child Diane spent all her school years with my sister Christal; Bill was the next in years and the baby was Mary and I well remember when she was born to Jean and the late Prentis Jung. Jean had been in poor health for several years and once or twice we thought she surely would not get over the heart problems she had,.. Modern medicine helped. Finally, death came calling bringing a relief that the very ill seek. The happy memories of Jean when we were growing up will remain forever. She was always ready for camping out, trip taking, laughing at funny stuffs going swimming with us, working hard and enjoying life. Betty Sue Stanbery Flurry spent her last few years a victim, of Alzheimer's Disease. This has to be the most frustrating disease to the patient and family members. So many years ago when we were kids in school this was unheard of and we would have disbelieved that such could ever happen to one of us. Thankfully, I remember the good times we had while in school. Betty and I double dated and had lots of fun, she spent nights, with me and, was truly a great friend. Her daughters Susan, Libby and Bonnie were friends of Randy's when he was in school with them. The girls and their dad Robert Flurry can recall wonderful times with their Sweet mother. Good things have happened at the Library with a memorial for Clauda Tinsley by her grandchildren Ashlee, Bailey and Creed Skidmore, Tommie Jan Lowery; for Sue Thomas by Welton and Marie Miller; for Ludmilla Altuchow by her neighbors in the Herman Nerren Road community; for Chester Treadaway by Batlett, Baggett & Shands, Sally Muhlbach, Bob and Debra Bashaw, Tommy and Marilyn Treadaway, the Mills County State Bank Club, Mildred Tucker, Gilbert D. Brown, the San Augustine County Chamber of Commerce, and the HHS Classes of 1940, 1941 and 1942. Also books were presented by Irene and Ed Edwards in memory of Ludrnilla Altuchow; books by Pam and Jackie in memory of Ruth English. A special thank you is sent to the Huntington Housing Authority crew for getting the numbers on the library so patrons will know they are located at 900 North Main Street in Huntington. They also erected a new handrail for those who need it. Librarian Debra Bashaw declared she could not put The Senator's Wife by Sue Miller away before she finished it at 4 a.m. one Saturday morning. It is the best book she has read in years. If you have more time than I, please check it out from the library and relax. |
