Hayes leads Lumberjack 20 3-A selections
By Russell Payne Sports Editor

The 2007-08 District 20 3-A Basketball team was recently named and there were five Lumberjacks honored for their play. Back row: J.J. Hayes; First Team All-District, Antonio Johnson; Honorable Mention, Christian Lovelady; Honorable Mention. Front row: Jacolby Spencer; Second Team, Cornelius Polk; Honorable Mention.
It was another hard fought year on the hardwood for the Diboll Lumberjacks Boys Basketball squad finishing the season 12-17, with a tough District 20 3-A record of 3-11.

Under the leadership of Coach Bryan Kruk the Lumberjacks gave it their all this year.

"We had an up and down season but gained some valuable experience for a young team that only loses 2 seniors," Kruk said.

Next season the Jacks are sure to step up their game with the loss of only two seniors.

"We will be Senior heavy next year and hope to draw on their experience and leadership to improve on the this year's record," Kruk said.

One of those seniors that will be departing this year is JJ Hayes and he was recently named to the 20 3-A First Team All District squad.

Hayes led the Lumberjacks on the court this season with his all out hustle and play.

Joining Hayes on this year's team is Jacolby Spencer with his selection to the second team all district.

Spencer was a valuable piece of this year's Lumberjack squad and was always there to pick up the team if Hayes was down.

Joining this dynamic pair are three Lumberjack Honorable Mention selections on the district squad. Those honors belong to Cornelius Polk, Christian Lovelady, and Antonio Johnson.

All three had remarkable seasons and helped the Jacks all the way.

Spencer, Lovelady and Johnson will all return next season to lead the Diboll cager's on the hard court.

This year will be the last of the old 20 3-A with realignment having changed the face of sports in the state again. Now with district winner Crockett gone from the new District 18 3-A and Jasper in the fold it will be the start of a whole new look to the league.
