Pilot Club prepares 'Kid Safe' program

The Diboll Pilot Club will present its annual "Kids Safe Saturday" program Saturday, April 26, at the Boys & Girls Club of Diboll, 200 S. First St.

The event is for children in the second through fifth grades and will run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Participants must register before the program begins. So parents should plan to arrive early.

Topics to be covered include Critical Care, Stranger Danger, Fire Prevention, Gangs, Computer Safety, Bicycle Safety and the Brain Minders Program. Brain Minders is an effort to avoid head injuries.

The day will feature goody bags, door prizes, free bike helmets to the first 80 children to receive certification, and a bicycle give way.

Volunteer presenters during the program will be Dr. C.H. Cathcart, Police Chief Kent Havard, Sheriff Kent Henson, probation officer Salvador Luna,

Eric Young of Lufkin Middle School, Constable Eddie Horton, Department of Public Safety Trooper Greg Sanchez and from the Diboll Fire Department, Chief Charlie Mann and Ruth Oates.

This year's event is in memory of Richard Thompson, a Diboll police officer and Kids Safe volunteer who died in a motor accident.

Sponsors of the event include Wal-Mart and Sam's Club; Temple-Inland Federal Credit Union; and First Bank and Trust of East Texas.

Kids Safe Saturday is free to all participants.
