Sheila's Potpourri
News from Huntington
Sheila Scogin

Evidently the old saying of "thunder in February, brings frost in April" has truth to it because we had frost two mornings this week. The cooler temperatures are good but we had to turn our heat on. I'm not griping but we would all like not to have to turn those heating and cooling units on just yet..

The annual Joe and Della Russell reunion was held and even though numbers were down. this year Those who did get to come had a great time with lots of food, fun and fellowship. Attending were Arlis and Wanda Russell, Crystal Beach; Gerald and Mary Ann Russell, Houston; Janice Brooks, Monica and Lucas Gilbert, Nancy and Billy Ray Allen, Lufkin; Dee Russell, Mary and Melvin Taylor, Cletus and Gladys Russell, James and Gerry Veteto, Belton and Cynthia Havard, Jason, Madeline, Kinlee, Jaxon and .Ava Havard and Debbie, Kevin and Kenneth Howard all of Huntington.

Cecelia Flournoy of Diboll was bustling by the beauty shop putting up posters of the 4-H Bingo fund raiser. Of course that has already been and gone.

If you have not visited at the new Health Care Center in Huntington on Ash Street stop by and find old friends. Some who are living there are Ollie Durham, Ruth Denman, Liza Mae Walker, Ora Cram, Pauline Capps, .Ruby Havard and Zavalla's Helen Sammon. Helen knew everybody who ever stopped by Boots Grocery because she worked the gas register for years on the evening shift. Randy has stories to tell of him and Helen working together and most likely you just shouldn't have that much fun.

Some folks I found around town were Gerald Sanders, Polly Oates Bailey, Bobbie Hines Jones, Andy Taylor, Robert and Jeannette Duren Jones, Ann LeSassier Blanton, Mary and Melvin Taylor, Billy and Vivian Page, Huntington Intermediate Principal Ben Wilroy, and Bro. Blackie Cranford.

Elmer Dominey asked to be sure he knew who he was talking to; it had been a lot of years since. I had seen him and his wife who was Bertie Goldsberry. I enjoyed seeing Denise Suggs Jones and sisters Teresa (T.J.) and Jeannie Stubblefield. They were remembering when they and Randy were in school and he (K-JAM) was doing dances. They' had some good times at those dances. Some other kids who never missed were Sheila Baker, David Craven, Curtis, Richard and Cheryl Crawford, Darwin Brown, Keith and Smith Malone and Joel Hale. There were a lot of great kids who just had a good time and never, gave us a minute of trouble.

Sharon Turney was telling us at the beauty shop about her and husband Chris going to a concert at Crockett. They had worked in the yard until late when Chris decided they needed to go to see some group from their younger days. She certainly didn't dress, up but looked decent and he was not only shocked to see how folks dressed but some of them showed up on walkers and with walking canes. Maybe even part of the entertaining group needed help getting around. Sharon laughed to think he has not really realized they are getting older. It is a surprise when we realize we aren't "spring chickens" still!
