Diboll golfers compete at regionals
By Russell Payne Sports Editor

For the Diboll Golf team it was an important week in Huntsville, TX last week as the boys squad headed for the Class 3A Region III Golf Tournament.

The team made up of Wesley McClain, Steve Brown, Brett Nash, Steven Hopkins and Eddie Esteves hit the links for two exciting rounds of competition.

On day one of play from the Raven's Nest Country Club the Lumberjack team was on fire and were poised for a top ten finish, while McClain picked up a round of 72 on the day.

The remainder of the team shot well in the opening day. Especially Esteves and his opening day round of 86. Unfortunately Esteves would not be able to complete the tournament after falling ill on Wednesday.

Brown shot an opening day 92, while Nash hit a 97 and Steven Hopkins came up with a 121.

The second day of play however would not go as smoothly as the Jacks fell from the top ten teams.

For McClain it was not as the youngster had hoped things would turn out, only shooting an 88 on the second day.

Rounding out the second day scores saw Brown put up a 88, Nash had a 90 and Hopkins posted a 123, while shooting 382 as a team.

Congratulate the District 20 3A Champions if and when you see them.
