City, state busy with right-of-way, other city signage infractions As it has been in the past, placing signs in city rights of way is a violation of city ordinance and state law. This is also true of political signs being placed in the right of way. The City of Diboll and the Texas Department of Transportation have been busy making sure that the city continues to look beautiful and no traffic hazards are caused by the improper placement of signs. In realizing that the governing of political signs can be a sticky situation, letters were mailed out to all candidates running for position on city council and the school board in early April asking them to please comply with proper placement of signs and giving a time period in which to comply. Anyone with a sign on his property should make sure that it is located on personal property and not on the right of way. Someone unsure of the location of the right of way should place them five feet behind the utility line or light post. The city of Diboll apologizes for any inconvenience that this might cause but this is state law and city ordinance and helps to keep our town attractive. The City of Diboll respects the right of all citizens to support the candidates of their choice. |
