"Lightning" Alvin Lyle Laxton, Sr.

Funeral services for "Lightning" Alvin Lyle Laxton, Sr., 61, of Lufkin were held Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in the Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Horace Fletcher and Captain Hank Harwell officiating. Interment followed in the Whitehouse Cemetery.

Mr. Laxton was born June 14, 1946 in Pleasant Plains, Arkansas to Leola (Hicks) and Hubert Laxton, and died Tuesday, May 6, 2008 in a local hospital.

Mr. Laxton had resided in Lufkin most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1970, and had worked for Moore Brothers Construction Company as a supervisor for over 30 years. Mr. Laxton was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Laxton of Lufkin; daughter and sonin law, Melody J. and Robert Havard of Huntington; daughter, Kimberly Laxton of Huntington; son, "Thunder" Alvin Lyle Laxton, Jr. and fiancée Deanna Cruz of Lufkin; grandchildren, Samantha Havard, Alvina Justus, Quinton Bowman, all of Huntington, and Destiny Rayne Laxton of Lufkin; brother and sisterin law, Marlin and Ida Laxton of Texarkana; sisters, Helene Laxton of Batesville, Arkansas and Brenda Barber of Warren; siser and brotherin law, Sheila and Jerry Long of Vidor; brother and sister-in- law, Billy and Donna Raley of Goodrich; brother, Troy "Pepper" Raley of Etoile; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leola and Hubert Laxton; granddaughter, Marina Havard; grandson, Marcus Havard; brothers, Ronnie Raley, Roy Laxton and Calvin Laxton; and sister, Betty Laxton.

Pallbearers were Sammy Smith, Daniel Justus, Tommy Griggs, James Doyle Clary, George Tubbs, 'Tubby' Robert Tubbs, Joe Benny Tubbs and Jerry Kennedy. Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Sharpton, Ricky Tubbs, Quinton Bowman, and the employees of Moore Brothers Construction Company.
