Jack Backers name scholarship winners

The Jack Backers Booster club met last week for their regular monthly meeting at the Lumberjack Stadium Fieldhouse.

The main order of business was to vote on the six Diboll High School seniors that would be receiving the Jack Backer Scholarship this year.

Each of the students selected will be receiving a $1,000 scholarship to be used towards their college educations next school year.

Recipients of this year's scholarships are Chance Johnson, Ryan Whitworth, Cutler Ruby, Kyle Prescott, J.R. Youngblood and Ryan Rasbeary.

In other business the Jack Backers elected their new officers for 2008-09.

The new officers are Tom Farley; President, Dwayne Stanford; Vice President, Sonia Meza; Treasurer and Cheri Smith; Secretary.

Some upcoming events for the Jack Backers include the 2008 Spring Fling and Powder Puff Football game. The event is scheduled for Monday, May 19 at Lumberjack Stadium starting at 6 p.m. with the awards for all Lumberjack and Lady Jack athletes that competed in Spring competition.

Powder Puff action pitting the Senior and Junior girls is set for 7:15 p.m.

The Jack Backers will be selling hamburger plates for $5 and other concessions will also be available for purchase.

The next meeting of the Jack Backers is scheduled for June 2, at 6 p.m. at the stadium fieldhouse.
