Airman Russell received this award for her support in Operational Iraqi Freedom. THIRTY YEARS AGO THIS WEEK
     Good Citizen Awards -- Six Angelina County young ladies were recognized for their service, leadership, dependability and patriotism by the Anthony Smith Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution at an awards ceremony held at the home of Mrs. Robert Poland. Mrs. Milton Hickman, chairman of the Good Citizen Award Committee, presented pins and certificates to (standing left to right) Kay Berry, Lufkin High School; Kim Sample, Diboll High School; and Debbie Collins, Hudson High School. Texans invade New Mexico for the second time
      Jose Antonio Navarro, a courageous patriot who endured fiendish torture rather than renounce the cause of independence, finally returned to Texas on Feb. 15, 1845, after three hellish years in a Mexican dungeon. Navarro's father was a Corsican, who traveled halfway around the world before settling in Mexico in the middle of the 18th century.

      Once upon a time, Bright & Early Coffee and Tea signs, usually painted on the sides of barns and country stores, could be found in most Southern states, including Texas Today, finding a Bright & Early sign is as hard to find as a Model-T Ford. Both have vanished from the American landscape.
