Marla Machart of Hudson was chosen Miss Lufkin 1979 at the annual Lufkin Jaycees Pageant held at the Lufkin Civic Center. The 18-year-old was presented her crown by the 1978 Miss Lufkin, Lisa Burkhalter of Diboll. Roxanne Sisk, 18, was first runner-up; Cindy Jordan, 21, was second runnerup; and Becky Presnall, 20, third runner-up. Miss Presnall was also voted Miss Congeniality. Carmen McCollum Hoskins was mistress of ceremonies. The green-eyed, five foot five Miss Machart sang 'Queen Bee' as her talent, although she is also an accomplished actress and dancer. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marlon Machant of Hudson.
