Marla Machart of Hudson was chosen Miss Lufkin 1979 at the annual Lufkin Jaycees Pageant held at the Lufkin Civic Center. The 18-year-old was presented her crown by the 1978 Miss Lufkin, Lisa Burkhalter of Diboll. Roxanne Sisk, 18, was first runner-up; Cindy Jordan, 21, was second runnerup; and Becky Presnall, 20, third runner-up. Miss Presnall was also voted Miss Congeniality. Carmen McCollum Hoskins was mistress of ceremonies. The green-eyed, five foot five Miss Machart sang 'Queen Bee' as her talent, although she is also an accomplished actress and dancer.
