Life is better lived together
      I have hesitated for many years in making public my experience with cancer. So many people have gone through so much more than I have in the diagnosis and treatment of their cancer. My role has always been caregiver: a husband with a heart transplant, a father with prostate cancer, and a mother with a brain tumor.

      For Easter Peggy Burns Taylor had a Resurrection Display that certainly got lots of attention. It was on my way home and was set at the end of Highway Baptist Church facing FM 1669. I'm sure I was not the only one who came to attention nearing the beautiful Angel. Peggy already has plans for the Christmas Manger Scene.

      We received the following e-mail from Fran Mc- Clain. The Diboll High School Graduating Class of 1969, along with their guests, met April 4 at the T.L.L. Temple Memorial Library for their 40thyear Class Reunion. All enjoyed the time spent together reminiscing and catching up on the last 40 years.

      Charlene and Woody Gann returned from a week in New York City. They stayed at the New York Sheraton (on Seventh Avenue, between Times Square and Central Park.) and saw three Broadway shows: "Wicked," "Jersey Boys," And "Phantom Of The Opera.

      It's a pretty rare week when a U.S. senator changes parties and a Supreme Court justice confirms his retirement. Each is an unusual event; to see both in one week is frankly remarkable. To be fair, the news about Justice David Souter was leaked; he had not planned to say anything just yet.

Order In The Court
      The Driver Responsibility Program is not administered by the justice court, but by the Texas Department of Public Safety. However, the justice court does receive a lot of questions on this and in this week's column and the next we will try to clear up some of the confusion.

Employee of the week
     Employee of the Week for May 1 is Karon Lenderman, an assistant at Diboll Primary School working in the library and computer lab. DISD and Diboll PTSA present each week's winner with a $100 qas card and will take the 32 winners out to dinner at the end of the school year.

     The PreK 3 Class at Diboll Primary School was treated to a guest speaker recently. Cynthia Capetillo, who works at Dr. Russell Ingram's dental office, visited with the students about how to brush their teeth and gave each child a toothbrush. Cynthia is a mom to one of the children in the half day PreK 3 class which is taught by Christie Stephens.

Watercolor East Texas seeks participants
      Watercolor East Texas is calling for entries to its 25th annual juried show, to be held Saturday, July 25. The show juror will be Linda M. Carter, an award winning painter from Houston. Judging will be at the Stephen F. Austin State University's Cole Art Center, 329 E. Main St., Nacogdoches.

     The Diboll ISD Family Education Center Adult ESL class visited The History Center in Diboll along with Christie Stephens' Pre-K 3 students on Thursday, April 30. This trip followed up a study in Pre-K 3 about different sounds in the environment.

T.L.L. Temple Memorial Library news
      Soon the kids will be out of school and parents will be looking for ways to keep them occupied for the summer. We would like to make you aware of some wonderful free fun at the library. This summer we will have the Texas Summer Reading Club for ages 3-11 and Texas Teens Read for ages 12-18 which encourages kids to read throughout the summer.

Feral hogs not tied to Swine Flu
      AUSTIN, Texas - The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department reminds hunters and trappers there is no indication of a human-animal disease relationship with swine flu and to continue to use common sense when handling feral hogs. While there is no known threat of contracting swine flu from feral hogs, they do carry other potential hazards.
