The Angelina County Sheriff's Department was continuing to investigate Tuesday the death of a Diboll man on Texas 94 next to the Neches River. Anthony Brent West, 38, last was seen Saturday night, May 16, leaving Jimmy's Bar by friends who later reported him missing, according to the Lufkin Daily News. West's body has been sent for autopsy, said Lt. Pete Cooper of the sheriff's office. West was remembered by Coach Jeff Stifle and Counselor Mary Ingram as a good athlete and, by Stifle, as a hard worker. "He was an energetic athlete. He worked very hard," Stifl e said, adding that West "had a good work ethic." After 20 years, Stifle, who coached West, does not remember awards won or accolades garnered. He was not sure if West tried college. Mary Ingram, high school counselor, also remembers West as a "smart kid" who was mainly known as an athlete. "He was very well-liked." Contrary to stereotypes about athletes, West was "not a real large kid." She was aware that he was still in Diboll but didn't keep up with him. Cooper of the sheriff's department said that investigators were tracking down members of West's family to get additional details.
