Lake Fork Trophy Bass survey tops 10,000 entries
      ATHENS, Texas — In May, the Lake Fork Trophy Bass Survey continued its run as the most successful program of its kind. Since the survey began in March 2003, anglers have reported catching more than 10,000 trophy largemouth bass from the 27,000 acre reservoir.

      On the weekend of May 23, an unknown person or people stole nine 16- foot Wolmanized utility poles from a business in the 1000 block of North Temple Drive. These poles were new and would have to have been loaded on a trailer when taken.

      FIFTH in the state of Texas! That's quite an honor for a 13-year-old. Lawren Scarborough recently competed for the first time in Wrangler's Junior High Rodeo finals in Gonzales. He participated in Team Roping and Breakaway and lacked two points being eligible to participate in the national finals.

      The Mosaic Center is busy planning Family Fun Day at Ratcliff Lake on June 20 for their graduates and their families from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. They have had a good response and have about 60 graduates and family members and 40 volunteers attending!       Republicans already are trying to confer "ownership" of the economic recession on President Obama. They suddenly have forgotten that their last president inherited a (much milder) downturn back in 2001 and never really did come to grips with it, instead turning his back and whistling a happy tune while robber barons stole the country blind.

      Things are really hopping around here for the Texas Summer Reading Club, ages 3-11. First, they were visited by Chicken Dog and his juggling master. Then, last week it was a wonderful visit for 185 children and parents from Mr. Puppet. This week, Thursday, June 18, at 2 p.m. the kids will enjoy a magic show with the famous Magician, Mr. Todd McKinney.
