City needs council member

Diboll city manager Dennis McDuffie said Tuesday he's not aware of any applicants for the vacant city council seat. The city is looking for a volunteer to fill the seat vacated by the resignation of Gary Jones

"Normally those (applications) would go directly to the other members of the city council. They, individually, like to have a little time to filter the information before it comes to the council for a vote," McDuffie said.

The council is scheduled to appoint a new council member during the regular council session July 13.

Applicants must live in council district four - an area of southern Diboll bounded by FM 1818 on the east side of Hwy. 259 and by Maynard Street west of Hwy. 259. Persons interested in serving may contact city hall, any member of the city council or Mayor Bill Brown before July 13.

Jones had been serving on the council since his indictment last year for colluding with former city street superintendent Lane Bass in a bid-rigging deal.
