Thirty Years Ago This Week Drivers on Highway 59 will be startled to see this huge 20' x 30' foot United States flag flying from an 80-foot-tall flagpole in front of the new Temple-Eastex office complex. Diboll 9 and under All-Star squad takes first place at Nacogdoches Baseball Invitational Tournament. Team members include Dylan Murphy, Kyle Guevara, Ryan Padilla, Jonathan Dewberry, Alden Cruz, Ryan Howard, Jared Davis, Matthew Moreno, Kotie McClendon, Chandler Reece and Coaches Chuck Murphy, Carlos Moreno and Rafael Guevara.
Jim Brody, president of Scotch Investment Company, cuts the ceremonial ribbon for the grand opening of Deer Trace Section 7, a 26-lot addition to the existing Deer Trace subdivision on Lumberjack Drive in Diboll.
Winning awards and honors at the American Drill-Dance Team Camp held in The Woodlands are Diboll High School Dazzlers Senior Lacy Burchfield, Samantha Dove, Callie Shivers, Chelsi Harper and Senior Oliveres. Heather Warren, a 2004 Diboll graduate and college signee with the University of Louisiana- Lafayette, is named to the roster of the Texas Girls Coaches Association High School All-Star Softball Game.
Diboll Ladyjack outfielder Natalie Solis is named to the Class 3A All-State Softball Team in selections announced by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.
Newly installed officers of the Diboll Pilot Club include Sue Beaty, president; Billie Willmon, first vice president; Barbara Nash, recording secretary; Brenda Russell, corresponding secretary; Geneva Ard, treasurer; and directors Johnnye Devereaux, Susan Schinke and Mozelle Devereaux.
Three Angelina College baseball players go in Major League Draft. Former Roadrunner Matt Varner is the first pick in the ninth round by the San Diego Padres; Terrance Sparks, a pitcher is taken in the 29th round by the Cincinnati Reds; and current pitcher Kendall Thurman is taken in the 41st round by the Kansas City Royals.

Funeral services are held for longtime Diboll Municipal Judge J.B. McConnico. Judge McConnico served as city judge from 1978 to 1997.
Diboll High School assistant principal Bobby Rice assumes the principal's duties following the auto accident that serious injured Principal Terry Sowers.
Diboll High School Senior Shannon Russaw receives the Pineywoods Trail Riding Association Scholarship.
Diboll's Billie Jean Capps wins first place in the Jam and Jellies Division at the Angelina County Vegetable and Canning Show.
Huntington ISD names Robert Bunton the new head football coach and athletic director. Bunton is a 22-year coaching veteran and comes from Mexia High School.
Members of the Diboll 11-12 year-old All-Star Girls Softball Team are Kacie Capps, Brittnee Neyland, Rachel Bowman, Liz Ray, Micha Flowers, Samantha Johnson, Sabrina Morado, Ashley Escobedo, Lindsey Wallace, Kendal Martel Kortney McMullen, Melissa Guevara and coaches Gary Martel, David Neyland and Terry Capps.

U.S. Marine Private First Class Bobby Chandler reports for duty with Marine Corps Security Force Company, Naval Air Station, Adak, Alaska. Chandler is a former graduate of Diboll High School and joined the Marine Corps in August of 1988.
Angelina County Historical Forum hears lifelong county citizen Pearl Havard speaks about the early days titled, "Driving the School Bus."
Workmen take down the old Gulf sign and replace it with a Chevron sign at Joe Moore's service station on U.S. 59 in downtown Diboll.
The Arthur Temple Senior Regional Cancer Center is dedicated at Memorial Medical Center of East Texas in Lufkin.
Diboll Police Chief Danny Ray graduates from the Federal Bureau of Investigation's National Academy at Quantico, Virginia.

Diboll Volunteer Fire Department is called out to assist firefighters at the HNF Fuel Terminal in Cleveland, Texas.
The Diboll Little League All-Stars will meet the Crockett Little League All-Stars in the first playoff round. Members of the Diboll Little League All-Stars include Bo Smith (Cardinals); Rodney Willis, Ronny Kilgore, Renaldo Sanchez (Cubs); Matt Strickland, George Castillija (Astros); Edward Seeking, Jeff Bearden (Yankees); Darwin Blake, John Hutcheson (Dodgers); Robert Solis, Tommy Fenley, Kenny Turner (Giants); Greg Rayburn (Indians); and All-Star Coaches James Carey Anthony and Gaylon Clark.
Five hundred million of the new Susan B. Anthony dollar coins are issued by the Federal Reserve Banks.
