09' Lumberjack Kick-Off Classic Golf Tournament

The date has been set for this year's Lumberjack golf tournament, held at the Neches Pines golf course. On August 1, starting at 9 a.m., a four-person scramble will commense a full day of golf, food, and fellowship.

In conjunction with this year's event, there will be a day-long silent auction held to help Larry Cook defray the cost of his ongoing medical treatments. The items for auction will include memorabilia from many local universities, gift certificates to local eateries, and green-fees to local courses. All community members are invited to the silent auction; participation in the scramble is not required.

The cost of this event is $50 per person or $40 for seniors. There will be cash prizes awarded to the first, second, and third place teams. In addition, there will be a closest to the pin challenge on holes three and seven, and a long drive competition on hole nine. A maximum of two mulligans will be available for purchase on the course. All participants will receive a meal at the tournaments conclussion.

The idea for the 955 mile journey east came about during a hunting trip over the winter. The result was a hard-fought one stroke victory at the Heritage Junior Championship. This week, Wesley will be in Houston as he attempts to qualify for the US Junior Amatuer's in Bedminster, New Jersey.
