Senior running back Kamran McCollum came by Sonic for Meet the Jacks this week. This human missle will keep the good folks of Diboll entertained with his high-octane approach to the game of football. Andrew Scott: How long have you been playing football? Kamram McCollum: It started in the backyard when I was 10. I didn't play organized ball until the seventh grade AS: What's your favorite part about playing football here in Diboll? KM: I love playing where I grew up. Not only do I get to play football with my friends, but I get to do it in front of a town where I know all the people and they know me. AS: What do you plan to do to not only make the playoffs this year, but to also end the six-year playoff win drought? KM: I want to teach the younger kids who haven't been exposed to varsity football what it means to play under the lights in East Texas. We are going to need everyone to contribute if we want to be great. AS: What do you feel like it will take that to accomplish that as a team? KM: We're good, and we could win every game. We just have to come together as a team and play as a group. In 7 on 7, we didn't always play as a team, so we need to get that fixed during two-a-days. AS: What do you know about your opponents heading in to the season? KM: Not much at all. I don't worry about that until it's time to play. AS: What have you been doing so far this summer to stay in shape? KM: I've been watching what I eat, making sure I eat nutritious. I've also been running a lot in the heat and I'm in the weight room every day. AS: Do you have a memorable play that sticks out in your mind? KM: There isn't one play that sticks out in my mind. I just love playing football so the next play is always my favorite. AS: What's your dream scenario for this season? KM: Right now my dream is to be ready to play as a team when Kirbyville comes to town. It's all about playing good when it counts for me. AS: Why did you choose the number 24? KM: There's no particular reason, it's just the number the coaches gave me. Since I've been wearing it, I notice it more in everyday life. It's just a coincidence, but my birthday is on the 24th and just last week, I got a fortune cookie that said 24 is my lucky number. AS: What's the worst you've been hurt while playing? KM: Last season I broke two fingers and seperated my shoulder. I broke my pinky finger on my left hand making a tackle against Coldspring, broke my right ring finger making a tackle against Newton. The shoulder injury came against Rusk. I like getting hurt, that's the fun part. AS: What are your future plans for after you graduate? KM: I want to keep playing football for as long as possible, so the next step would be college ball. Right now I'm interested in getting a business degree and going in to coaching, but who knows where life will take me. AS: I've got one more question for you. You play Kirbyville to start the season. Do you have a message for them? KM: I'm going to be ready so they need to come ready. They'll be here this year, so that's not good for them at all. It won't be like last year. AS: What do the Lumberjack's need to do to make sure they're ready to go? KM: We just need to go out there and have fun. If we do that, we can stay relaxed and focused. Coach will have us ready to go.
