Although the weather has continued to be hot this month, children hoping to escape the heat have been thwarted for the last week and a half now that the splash park in Old Orchard Park in Diboll has been shut down. City Manager Dennis McDuffie says the closing came about when the city was forced to shut down one of its water wells due to a mechanical malfunction. Until it is fixed, McDuffie is asking everyone to voluntarily conserve water to help the city keep from placing mandatory water rationing on local businesses and citizens. A rash of vehicle breakins over the summer months have kept Diboll police busy, although officers admit that most of them could have been prevented with a little common sense. Det. Norman Williams of the Diboll Police Department says the thefts began in the spring and have stayed fairly active throughout the summer months. More...

Funeral for Louis Steve Foy, 96, of Lufkin, was held Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at Crain Funeral Home, in Franklinton, LA. Burial was in the Ellis Cemetery. He died August 8, in a local nursing facility. He was a native of Jefferson County, MS.
