Sites include a containerboard mill in Orange; lumber mills in Diboll, Pineland, Buna and DeQuincy, La.; and a particleboard facility and fiberboard plant in Diboll.

      In the late l980s, a Connecticut-based forest products company launched a program that triggered the protection of some of East Texas’ most unique forest areas. The forerunner of the trend to set aside unique areas for environmental reasons was Champion International, which created six “Special Places in the Forest.”

      Herring Coe’s name would most likely not ring the bell of recognition for most East Texans, but he nonetheless left an indelible mark on the region that will not fade anytime soon. That is because what remains of his life’s work is chiseled in stone or cast in bronze for all of us to see today.
