Diboll Garden Club enjoys a Sago Palm program

Billie Willmon and Susan Schinke were hosts of the recent Garden Club meeting. Billie Willmon and Susan Schinke were hosts of the recent Garden Club meeting. The Diboll Garden Club met Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Ralph and Kacoo’s Restaurant in Lufkin for a special luncheon and program.

Guests were Gerald and Linda Snider from Huntington, who offered an informative and entertaining presentation concerning the care and propagation of sago palms. Gerald Snider, a master gardener, gave specific advice about growth, diseases and other practical ideas on growing these hardy plants. Examples in pictorial and tactical forms added much to his presentation.

The meeting was called to order by JoAnn Rainwater, followed by an opening prayer by Betty Hendrick. Mrs. Rainwater thanked Susan Schinke and Billie Willmon for hosting this session. Further, President Rainwater recognized those who had participated in the October clean-up project for the county and welcomed Gay Storch, a new resident of Diboll and newest club member.

New business centered around a plant bulb sale by the Keep Angelina Beautiful Committee. In making this presentation, Billie Willmon indicated that Bidoll receives a significant part of the money raised for various beautification projects in this city.

Members present were as follows: Bess Andrews, Sue Beaty, Peggy Burt, Ginger Capps, Joyce Carr, Mozelle Devereaux, Bettye Greer, Vernell Havard, Betty Hendrick, Oneta Hendrick, Louise McKinney, Sandra Pouland, JoAnn Rainwater, Kathy Sample, Gay Storch, Susan Schinke, Chubby Slack, Diane Tate, Dolly Whitaker and Billie Willmon. Special visitors were Christene Lynch and Jennifer Falk from New York City.
