Hwy. 59 lanes to close again
The U.S. 59 South Project contractor will be pouring concrete requiring the closure of the northbound On- Ramp to Business 59/South First Street from 8 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday. Motorists traveling the Northbound Frontage Road will have to go to FM 58/Chestnut Drive and take the bridge around or use another route to reach their destinations.
PTSA sets book drive, give-away
Diboll PTSA is conducting a used book drive. All books for all ages are needed. Games, puzzles, DVD’s and videos are also needed. Books can be sent to a Diboll ISD campus, or call 829- 4817 to arrange to have books pickedup.
From noon to 7 p.m. Nov. 5-6 the PTSA will host a Book Give-Away at the T.L.L. Temple Library. Everyone is invited to come and get free books, games, videos and DVDs. There will not be a limit on the number you can have free.
The book collection and giveaway is a Texas PTA/Texas Library Association SMART program event.
Diabetes Group meeting
The first Diabetes Support Group will meet on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 6:30 p.m. at the Woodland Heights Affinity Center located at 302 Medical Park Drive, Suite 103. Dr. Carlton Lewis will be the first guest speaker and will be discussing medication issues. To RSVP, call 936-699-CARE.
Bingo for Perry Chapel
Perry Chapel CME Church is having a Bingo fund-raiser at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Diboll Housing Authority Community Center. Cost is $1 per card. There will be prizes, food, drinks and snacks available for a donation.
Advanced Academics and Gifted nominations
Nominations for placement in the Advanced Academic Services Gifted and Talented Program at Diboll ISD for students in grades kindergarten through 11 are now open until Dec. 11. Letters announcing the opening of nominations have been sent home with students. Scarborough reunion
The James L. and Samantha E. Renfro Scarborough family reunion will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at Beulah Community Center, located eight miles from Lufkin at Loop 287 and Farm Road 58. Welcome reception at History Center
The public is invited to a reception for Jay Brittain and a viewing of the exhibit “Jay’s Birds,” from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at The History Center. There will be light refreshments, and about 5:15 p.m. Brittain will share his experiences from the field, photographing wildlife.
Gospel concert set
A Gospel concert will be presented at Eastview Pentecostal Church at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21. A variety of groups and soloists will be featured, including the Cox Trio, The Bynum Family, the Wilkersons, Sharon Ivie, Nelda Cox, Kevin Porter and others. Admission is free.
