Garden Club hears about ‘Pass along’ plants
      With resolve to be better stewards of plant life, the Diboll Garden Club met Jan. 26 at Billie Robison’s home. She, along with Bettye Greer and Joyce Carr, provided refreshments and fellowship for 19 members.

A visit to New York leaves impression
      I am grateful for the visits I’ve had to New York City. Thanks to JoAnn Rainwater for inviting me and to Christine Lynch for letting us stay in her East mid-Manhattan apartment. Christine and her friend, Jennifer Falk, graciously and patiently carried us to all the sights and sounds of NYC. It is an unforgettable experience!

Boots Morehead has a fun time at 82nd
      Boots Morehead was having a fun day when I stopped by with happy birthday wishes. Ted Ivy was leaving as I walked in and he said he and Boots were within a few months of the same age, which is 82. Neither one looks to be that old. Some who had stopped by with good wishes were Boots’ brothers W.J., Tot, LeMorris and Verble Morehead. His son Scott was busy greeting folks.

      I kept looking for the hole in the tree that Alice went into, but it was just the door of the Kurth Memorial Library to the 5th Annual Gala with the theme “Whimsical Walk Through Wonderland.”

Wright more than a mentor
      Born of respected teacher parents, imbued with a work ethic honed by the Great Depression and awarded the Bronze Star for World War II service, Bob Wright passed many of life’s toughest tests while still a teen. It’s little wonder that he touched many lives during a 40-year career in education.

      With Valentine’s Day coming up soon we thought it would be good to share a little bit about the history of the Valentine Card. Verbal Valentine greetings have been going on since the middle ages but the written Valentine has only been around since the 1400s. The oldest Valentine card in existence was made in the 1400s and is in the British museum.

      We are big football fans at the Barger house. I Iearned early on that if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. Watching football is Bob’s way of relaxing and our son, Christian is a football coach at Kingwood High School. So when Super Bowl Sunday rolls around every year, we celebrate it with making time for the big game and Mom comes up with Super Bowl Snacks.
